As an introvert, you've spent your fair share of peaceful mornings cultivating the perfect excuses to get out of plans later. With your delicate acquaintanceships hanging in the balance, it's important to have incredibly plausible excuses that are not too elaborate (my triplet's in the ER… again) and not too simple ('I can't make it') so that your friends don't think you're a total flake. Overusing an excuse can lead to disaster and flat-out lying makes you a bad friend–so what's an introvert to do?
Well, you can consult your ever-growing roster of excuses.
When it comes to planning events (or unplanning them), introverted people are not only resourceful but also creative. We can think of amazing anecdotes in a matter of minutes when it comes to self-preservation, but when it comes to saying a fun fact on the company meeting call or engaging in an icebreaker activity in school, we've got nothing to show for it. An introvert soars in the comfort of their own homes, sharpening their wits and ironing out plot holes in our best excuses.
So the next time you're cornered by your extroverted friends who keep coming up with solutions to get you to come to their 40th birthday party, remember this. Every perfect excuse to get out of plans includes contingencies of every sort. Have a plan and be thorough, fellow introverts, because planning out your excuses well could just save you from a night full of small talk, sweaty pits, and a far-too-small plate of hors d'oeuvres.
